
With first of July 2008 Austria has introduced a Transponder Requirement for the Austrian Section of the Danube. Skipper, whose vehicles were not equipped with its own functional Inland AIS Transponder could be hired by contractors to the Danube via a deposit rental equipment for the trip in Austria. Pursuant to § 14:01 of the already known and made to come into force on 1.1.2012 the new version of waterway traffic order (WVO), Federal Law Gazette II No. 289/2011 ends, this provision of loaner equipment with 31.12.2011.
As on 1.1.2012, vehicles drive on the Austrian section of the Danube waterway or waterways Traun and Enns or the Danube Canal, with an Inland AIS transponders in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 415/2007 of 13 March 2007 be equipped with the technical specifications for vessel tracking and tracing systems in accordance with Article 5 of Directive 2005/44/EC of the European Parliament and Council Directive on Harmonised River Information Services (RIS) on inland waterways in the Community. The devices must comply with the telecommunications legislation.
The only obligation of the following vehicles are exempt:
a) vehicles pushed a pushed convoy;
b) vehicles of a given coupled coupling Association;
c) not free running ferries;
d) small vehicles.
