Cargo volumes transhipped on the water side at Austrian public Danube ports show a positive trend in the first half of 2010. In Krems, Enns and Linz cargo volumes transhipped from and to vessels grew significantly compared to the first half of 2009.
Port of Krems

Good news have been published by Mierka Donauhafen Krems. With about 160,000 tons of goods handled on the water side in the first half of 2010, the port registered an increase of more than 44% compared to 2009. Similarly to that, the public port of Linz recorded a remarkable increase of close to 30% – more than 540,000 tons of goods were transhipped on the water side. With close to 300,000 tons of waterside transhipment, representing an increase of 10% compared to 2009, the port of Enns also counts among the winners in the first half of 2010. The only Austrian Danube port which showed a decline in the first months of 2010 was the port of Vienna (-14%). In spite of that, the port of Vienna still is the second most important port concerning transhipped cargo volumes – 450,000 tons of goods were handled on the water side there in the first half of 2010. Land side container transhipment in Austrian public Danube ports also shows a positive trend in 2010. Thus, the port of Enns registered an increase of 34%, corresponding to more than 100.000 TEU handled in the first half of 2010.

17,000 TEU were transhipped in Krems which represents a significant increase of 20%. However, these growth figures were only registered in land side transhipment. On the water side container transport does not play a big role yet – transhipment volumes even had to face a decline in the first half of 2010. Only the port of Krems showed a positive trend in water side container handling where more than 1,000 TEU were transhipped to and from vessels in the first half of 2010.
