The movement of goods from all Austrian ports have been increasingly going south in the past few years. “The port of Koper has developed to become one of the most important ports for the Austrian oversees traffic, and has become the most significant European seaport for the Austrian economy” says Monika Unterholzner, Authorized Signatory and Head of International Affairs at the Port of Vienna.
In this perspective, the two Danube ports presented on 20 October in Koper their joint initiative towards a cooperation agreement between the Austrian ports and the Slovenian seaport.
The port of Koper ist particularly interesting for liner services for the container and car industry as well as for the Austrian sea freight transport. With the newly introduced container train services, companies will save up to seven days in goods transport towards the Far East, compared to the connection going via the North Sea ports. Furthermore, the North-South axis over the Danube will be connected with the Black Sea Region and thus South-East Europe.
