MESSAGE ABOUT INACCURACIES AND ERRORS OF THE AUSTRIAN INLAND ENCS

via donau and the Austrian Supreme Shipping Authority, in their function as the organisations responsible for the content of the electronic navigational charts of the Austrian Danube in the Inland ECDIS standard, are kindly asking DORIS users for feedback about inaccuracies and errors in the digital navigational charts.

This request is addressed to all users of the Austrian waterways who use the “Inland ECDIS Equipment.”

Important information of interest are:

  • Missing objects, which are of importance for navigation (e.g: pontoons, groins, cross beams, bridges, navigation characters, etc....),
  • Wrong positions of objects already drawn within the ENCs,
  • Wrong information on objects already drawn within the ENCs.

In order to locate the positions, please use the X and Y coordinates (WGS 84) in degrees, minutes and seconds or also the bank side, river kilometres/ hectometres and distances from the next kilometre / hectometre mark in meters.

For example:

48°18'27.11 N 14°17'9.78 E: pontoon is missing

2135.1 - 32 m, right bank: pontoon is missing

(Caution: with GPS measurements, GPS receivers can obtain very different results even when connected to the same antenna in the same location .It may therefore be necessary to indicate this factor.)

Another possibility to provide a message is to make a screenshot directly from the software and mark the changes by hand on the print-out. Exact information on the object and a free hand sketch with the dimensions, would be very useful.
